Named after two California natives, Adolfo and Juan Camarillo, the city of Camarillo is part of Ventura County, California. The population of the city was 65, 201 according to the 2010 U.S. census report. If you are planning a road trip, you can enter the city through the Ventura Freeway, which is part of the U.S. Route 101.

Formerly known as Oxnard Air Force Base, the Camarillo Airport was constructed during the 1950s. It was first used as a military base, but in 1976, the Camarillo Airport was classified as a General Aviation airport managed by Ventura County. As of the 2006 statistics, the airport reported over 150,000 aircraft operations annually. Moreover, there are around 600 based aircrafts on the airport’s 650-acre land. The Camarillo Airport also serves as a base for the county’s fire department and EMS communication center, and a training center.

Historically, it was only during 1964 when Camarillo became a city. Because of the late date of incorporation, the local telephone lines were listed as a segment of the city of Oxnard. Camarillo’s main industry was agriculture, and the area was greatly surrounded with orange and walnut groves. The city’s founders bred Camarillo White Horses in the 1920s and they would dress them in colorful Spanish attire.

If you want to know more of the old Camarillo, you can visit The Old Town Camarillo. On the northern portion, it consists of businesses, schools, and parks to hold events such as the annual Camarillo Street Fair. The Old Town is also where you will find the Camarillo Farmers’ Market, which takes place every Saturday morning.

The historic 4-acre Camarillo Ranch is the perfect venue for intimate weddings and special events. The ranch has four party venues, and the 1892 Queen Anne Victorian mansion is the focal point. The estate is actually Adolfo Camarillo’s gift to his wife Isabella. In 2001, the city of Camarillo restored a portion of the spacious property. Visitors can now freely explore the beautiful gardens, and tour the Camarillo Ranch’s museum.

Camarillo is brimming with places to visit and adventures to experience. In fact, there are over 20 parks in the city. To name a few, there’s the Bob Kildee Community Park, Camarillo Grove Park, Community Center Park, Mission Oaks Park, and Springville Park. The city is also complete with facilities like the Aquatic Center, Senior Center, and Skate Park.

The Aquatic Center is the only indoor public swimming pool in the entire Ventura County. It provides a variety of Aquatic Programs throughout the year. The Aquatic Center, also known as Pleasant Valley Pool, opened its doors in 1969. A 65-foot spiral waterslide and an outdoor splash pad were the added during its 2007 renovation. Aside from the water aerobics and swimming lessons, the Aquatic Center boasts a 25-yeard pool that holds more than 200,000 gallons of water. The pool has eight swimming lanes and a total seating capacity of 210 people.

The Aquatic Center is enveloped by Bob Kildee Park. This 13-acre park has several amenities including picnic tables, restrooms, basketball courts, tennis courts, and lighted ball fields. Plus, you may reserve the two picnic areas equipped with barbeque grills. It’s the perfect location for family outings!

The Bob Kildee Park is one of oldest parks in the city and is located at 1030 Temple Avenue, which is just next to the Pleasant Valley Aquatic Center. The fun does not end there because there’s still the Pleasant Valley Skate Park. The concrete flow park is designed for both beginners and expert skaters. If you want to practice skating and biking, head to 1605 E. Burnley Street from 9AM to 4PM.
